3D unit for railroads Print E-mail
Ellips was asked to design a 3D detection unit for railroads. The first phase was succesfully tested.

Using a laser and a matrix camera running at 200 frames per second Ellips was able to design a laser triangulation unit.
It can recognize the fasteners used to hold the rails, and generate a real time 3D model which can be viewed virtually from different angles on a monitor.
Also the system generates accurate position data for the wrench robot, and eliminates the setup time typically needed with other sensors.
And last but not least:  the cycle time for the next measurement was improved significantly.

The unit was tested in Weert in the Netherlands and accepted as a prove of concept in the first phase of the project.
